Biography

The ultimate goal of my work is to take people on a journey to deepen their own human understanding and to grow closer to becoming compassionate global leaders. I believe in everyday leadership and a compassionate leadership in everyone. During my cross-cultural (intercultural competency) workshops that I have offered at many universities and corporations, I underline two major steps toward ‘inclusive excellence.’ First, in order to acknowledge and appreciate others’ individual differences (e.g. learning styles and life experiences) and group/social differences (e.g. gender, cultural/ethnic, national, religious affiliation; socioeconomic class, ability status, and country of origin), cross-cultural education starts with a strong foundation of self-awareness (positive & negative past experiences, stereotypes, or ignorance toward others) and understanding social and institutional biases for and against those differences. This foundation allows us to get to know others right where they are as unique human beings who share the same needs and desires with us. Shared sense of humanity nurtures a sense of humility and provides us opportunities to connect with people on a deeper level. Second, diversity is not only the right thing to promote, but also it drives the innovation and success of organizations that are proven in countless research in organizational performances. Celebrating multiple approaches and points of view facilitates better decision making by any organization to build future success.
