Joe is passionate about advancing education that enables all people to flourish and contribute to a more peaceful world. His research and teaching focus on innovation in education and human development, and the cultivation of mindfulness, emotional intelligence, leadership, purpose, and systems change. After graduating from Hamilton College where he played basketball and studied education, inequality, and development, Joe embarked on a 16 month fellowship investigating exemplary learning environments around the world. He visited schools, accelerators, and education ministries in the Nordics, participated in teacher trainings, meditation retreats, and education conferences in Asia, and immersed himself in leadership academies, NGOs, and intentional communities across Africa. This journey offered critical insights on human flourishing and systems change, and ultimately led him to teach with SIYLI after he was moved by the program's capacity to help people show up fully in the world. When not facilitating Search Inside Yourself, Joe is deepening his practice and offering this work as a residential practitioner at the Monastic Academy - a training center dedicated to developing wise, compassionate, and powerful leaders that are an unstoppable force for social and environmental peace.
