This week Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute posts its third video in the SIY curriculum, SIY 103-1. In the SIY 103-1 video, Meng discusses the importance of self-assessment. What does self-assessment do for you? An accurate assessment of your skills and weaknesses can help you improve your productivity, happiness and effectiveness at work and at home.

How? Once you accurately identify your negative thoughts and behaviors you can begin to use your mindful practices to eliminate them. If you find you frequently check your email when you feel under pressure at work, try taking a mindful minute.

Focus on your breathing. Block out all impulses to check that email or let stress overwhelm you. Once you’re done, start working again. When you feel the impulse to check your email, acknowledge your impulse and refocus your attention. You’ll be amazed how much more you accomplish in the office.
